2011 Ford Explorer Review, It Keeps All The Authenticity And Capability Of A Tough Truck-based SUV

2011 Ford Explorer Review – Ford is unveiling its redesigned 2011 Explorer today on a dedicated Facebook page, almost six months ahead of the car’s on-sale date this winter. The Explorer is still a really important car for Ford, which says that 95% of all car buyers identify the name. So the all-new 2011 Ford Explorer has a challenging task: It must keep all the “authenticity” and capability of a tough truck-based SUV, or it must be a “no-compromise SUV” that offers families a “sense of adventure” even if they only use it around the city.
The 2011 Explorer offers one of some Ford firsts, a Terrain Management System akin to the one on the much pricier Land-Rover LR4. It allows the driver select one of four settings to recognize the road surface and also offering Hill Descent control that needs the driver only to steer while the car goes down at a safe speed.
The 2011 Explorer offers two engine options, but Ford will probably spend far more time discussing the smaller of the two: a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four generating 237-hp that create 250 lb-ft of torque–as much as the 4.0-liter V-6 base engine in the previous Explorer. Ford is broadening its efficient EcoBoost engines boldly into more car lines, and the 2011 Explorer is the second for the direct-injected, turbocharged EcoBoost four. Ford says the Explorer’s other engine, a 290-hp, 3.5-liter V-6, equals the power of the previous model’s optional 5.0-liter V-8. Like the EcoBoost four, the V-6 has twin separately timed overhead camshafts.
The new 2011 model is tall–opening the door unveils a stepover higher than you might imagine from looking at it–but wide enough where it has clearly different proportions. Although, proportions aside the 2011 Ford Explorer is a major seven-seat people-and-stuff hauler, and it appears it. Inside, the interior is a noteworthy step up from the earlier Explorer. It’s fully car-like, and only the rotating Terrain Management System knob on the console–with a center button for Hill Descent Control–gives away its off-pavement capabilities. [TheCarConnection]
